Signature Creation
—
After learning how to play, you get to create your very own Signatures! (and accompanying assets) Ideas are unique to you. Any story, character or world you have ever thought of, you can use it in Brimagine. Here is how:
Your first signature is always your main character. Simple enough, you can create anyone you want.
But they must have is a guiding principle. Something they believe in, or something that scares them. One or more traits that they can stick by during the story. An idea that makes them who they are.
Your second signature is even easier, it can be anything. Literally anything, a character, item, vehicle, building, plant, concept, whatever!
You may want to have models or props for your signatures, so your opponents can recognise them. As well as display cards with their name, ability, weakness and guiding principle.
Speaking of signature abilities, how do they work? Technically, anything in the story can have an ability (you just say an item can do a thing in the story and then you have it do that thing). But there are two things that are useful about signature abilities.
The first is that no one else is allowed to copy your signature abilities. No two signatures can have the same one. Through your signature abilities, you create a strategy that is entirely unique to you. Your very own playstyle.
The second useful thing is that only signatures are allowed to have “conditional abilities.” Allowing you to mess with you opponents turns and corner them.
Abilities can do anything except break the rules of Brimagine. But it is best when they relate to their signature. Also, the more powerful you signature abilities are, the more limiting your Signature weakness must be.
You signature weakness must affect one or both of your signatures. This may seem like the least fun part of Brimagine but try to turn your weakness being an interesting obstacle. Something that is fun to get around, rather than something that takes away the fun.
You may want to have a collection of “spare” characters, items, locations, etc, to help build settings and tell your stories. Like the extra assets on the starter sheets. These are not required and you can create new goals and settings before each match.
(Tip: When creating your own goals, make sure they are well defined so people cannot argue weather you have completed it or not. “Defend an egg” how do you complete that? Is it defended if it cracks? Whereas: “Make sure the egg doesn’t crack” is a well defined goal.)
Non-signatures are allowed abilities.
And that’s everything! I hope you enjoy playing and creating with Brimagine. I cannot wait to see what you come up with!
